Wow! Another year. They come fast don’t they. …and the older I get the faster they come. I think it’s Mother Nature’s way of punishing us. ‘Guess the older you get the more sins you commit so the more need to punish you. LOL. …and I hate to use those silly text message abbreviations but hopefully you all realize I’m just kidding, anyway.
For a more serious note, those of you who have already taken my class know how adamant about gun safety I am. I can’t BE any more serious about gun safety. The anti gun coalition says guns kill people. Well, I guess then cars kill people too, so as they say let’s outlaw cars also! Some people would really love that, wouldn’t they? Then we could have everybody ride the bus. No, I don’t think so! Especially here in Texas where since the early settler days Texans have always valued their independence and individual mobility. The problem is, people are killed by guns. …and you can’t do much about the bad guys killing people with guns except to carry yours and be ready yourself, but you can do something about children killing themselves or others with guns. I don’t know about you, but I keep a loaded gun by my pillow and readily available in the day time too. When out and about, it’s on me. The “on me” may not be a problem, but the “by my pillow” might be. I have grandchildren ranging in age from 3 to almost 6. That age range is where so many children are shot or even killed each year, and needlessly so, by another child with a gun. Pediatrics*, the leading journal of pediatrics, showed in a study that over 1200 children are shot each year in unintentional shootings. That’s an average of 3 or more children shot everyday accidentally somewhere in the United States. Texas and many other states are known as CAP states, which stands for Child Access Protection states. As you know if you took my class, if a child under age 17 accesses your gun you may have committed a crime with a few exceptions to the rule. If the child injures or kills someone you are in serious trouble and will probably do jail time, not to mention the psychological harm to yourself and the child who did the shooting. …but children’s access to your gun can be prevented as you know by various methods most of which involve some kind of gun locking device. The problem is, you want your gun readily available, loaded and ready to shoot should an intruder enter your home. So, here I tout the quickest and most effective, by a long shot, no pun intended, Safety Bullet. There’s just nothing to compare. When loaded in your gun and a child pulls the trigger, the gun is locked up and will not shoot or rack. Do yourself a favor and read about the Safety Bullet on our Safety Bullet website page. Then research it for yourself. Then buy it and use it or the next child shot could be yours!
* published by the American Academy of Pediatrics
Half of all unintentional shooting deaths among children occur at home, and almost half occur in the home of a friend or relative
Most parents with guns think their children do not know where they hide them. However, 8 in 10 first graders know where their parents’ guns are hidden.
Many parents think their children are not capable of firing a gun. However, children as young as 3 years are strong enough to pull the trigger of most American guns.
Parents believe their children know the difference between real guns and toy guns, but few children younger than 8 years can tell the difference.
Parents often believe their child would not touch a gun because “he knows better.” However, studies have found that most children will handle a gun if they find one, even if they have been taught not to.

Whew! Guess I’ve been busy! I just noticed I haven’t updated this blog in a while and now the year is coming to an end!
Well I just ran across an article in TexasCHLforum.com talking about a 4 year old killing himself with his grandmother’s firearm. It’s so sad, and so preventable. Can you even imagine the grief if this was your child or the child of someone close to you, ‘just 4 years old? If you read much about guns or shooting you run across these articles all the time. Over 100 children are killed each year somewhere in the United States by shooting themselves or shooting another child when they gain access to a handgun. I know this may sound like typical liberal statistics quoting but what that statistic really means is that over 100 child deaths could have been prevented! The anti-gun lobby and anti-gunners in general really like to push this stuff. Most of us gun packers all know that most of the anti-gun lobby and anti-gunners are also packers themselves! What hypocrisy! It’s alright for them to protect themselves but it’s not alright for us to protect ourselves. Need I say Dianne Feinstein? Yes, she’s a packer! …and she’s probably the most adamant anti-gunner out there or at least she’s the one the “drive by” media always mentions when it comes to some new proposed anti-gun legislation.
So how can you be sure little Johnny or Susie will never get your gun and shoot themselves or some other child? Yes, you’re right, you can’t, but there is a 99% effective gun safety device available that will prevent their ability to discharge the firearm. …and no, it’s not a gun safe. If you’re gonna’ store your firearm in a gun safe, then you might as well tell the perp or intruder to “come on in, we’re not armed” because it’s true. Even the quickest gun safe takes a few seconds to punch in your code and retrieve your firearm. The device I’m talking about allows you to fire your gun in a fraction of a second. I don’t know what it’s actual effectiveness rating is. I say 99% but it may even by 100%. I’m talking about the Safety Bullet. Check out the tab on our website: Safety Bullet. It’s not just that yes, I’m selling it. It’s that, as I tell everyone and I told those of you who attended my class, that I’m adamant about gun safety. No gun can be too safe and nobody can be too safe with a gun. Remember, gun safety rule no. 1, a gun is always loaded, period!
Merry Christmas, Y’all!

Some people have been a little too quick to sign up for a Virginia non-resident concealed handgun license permit training course online. These website training courses claim it is completely legal in Texas and tout the relatively inexpensive cost. What the online training courses don’t tell you up front is all of the requirements for actually getting that permit, all of the additional hassle of assembling all required documentation, and all of the costs which in total are actually considerably higher than in Texas and considerably more time consuming. …and many people don’t yet realize that a bill has been passed by the Texas legislature and gone on to be signed by the governor which will decrease the fee charged by the state of Texas from $140.00 down to just $40.00. Governor Abbott will sign this bill. While the Texas LTC training class actually lasts about 4 1/2 hours not counting the shooting requirement and testing, the Virginia online classes claim the Texas training requires 10 to 15 hours, this is just not the truth. A scam is a scam is a scam! Remember the true saying “when something seems a little to good to be true it probably is not true.” Among the many requirements for the Virginia application for a non-resident permit, the application requires proof of “Competence with a Handgun.” The online class websites claim “no actual shooting is required.”
According to the Virginia State Police the following satisfy “Competence with a Handgun.
The applicant shall demonstrate competence with a handgun by one of the following:
Completing any National Rifle Association firearms safety or training course.
Completing any firearms safety or training course or class available to the general public offered by a law-enforcement agency, junior college, college, or private or public institution or organization or firearms training school utilizing instructors certified by the National Rifle Association or the Department of Criminal Justice Services or a similar agency of another state.
Completing any law-enforcement firearms safety or training course or class offered for security guards, investigators, special deputies, or any division or subdivision of law enforcement or security enforcement.
Presenting evidence of equivalent experience with a firearm through participation in organized shooting competition approved by the Department of State Police or current military service or proof of an honorable discharge from any branch of the armed services.
Obtaining or previously having held a license to carry a firearm in this Commonwealth or a locality thereof, unless such license has been revoked for cause.
Completing any firearms training or safety course or class, including an electronic, video, or on-line course, conducted by a state-certified or National Rifle Association-certified firearms instructor.
Completing any governmental police agency firearms training course and qualifying to carry a firearm in the course of normal police duties.
Completing any other firearms training that the Virginia Department of State Police deems adequate.
Completing a hunter education or hunter safety course approved by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries or a similar agency of another state.
Additionally, many Texas Peace Officers and other law enforcement personnel do not understand that the Virginia non-resident permit may be honored in Texas under certain circumstances, thus you may still be arrested for carrying a handgun in Texas if you are a Texas resident. Click this link to see the actual Virginia non-resident concealed handgun license application requirements. As they say in Spanish, “Ten cuidado”, or in other words in English, “Be careful!”

Election day is nearing. Early voting is about to start. Many people don’t realize what’s at stake for this election and our country. People haven’t awakened yet to what’s happening in this country in spite of the last nearly 10 years of so called Progressive government control. Remember what you learned in school in government class about “Separation of Powers”? That’s the best thing WE THE PEOPLE still have going for us in terms of precluding complete autocratic governmental control and total loss of our personal freedoms. The Supreme Court (SCOTUS) is the highest court in the country and is the final line in interpretation of law. SCOTUS justices are appointed for life. Right now it’s 3 and 3 in terms of liberal (progressive) and conservative vote. One more liberal appointee on the Supreme Court and we’re done, and it’s over, Folks! The other thing WE THE PEOPLE still have going for us is our right to arm ourselves as stated in the 2nd Amendment. It’s been said that the only reason the Japanese Admiral Yamamoto did not want to invade our country’s mainland is that he felt that individual Americans were each heavily armed and would unite to defend their country. Liberals have been trying to nullify the 2nd Amendment since early in the 20th century. The only thing standing in their way is the Supreme Court. The next president will appoint at least 2, if not more, Supreme Court Justices. As stated before, the Supreme Court is supposed to interpret the law. Currently there is no non-partisan interpretation. The SCOTUS justices vote strictly along partisan lines rather than staying non-biased as they should. If you still don’t know who you’re going to vote for and are influenced by the liberal media into believing that neither of the candidates is honest; please realize that one of the candidates, the Progressive candidate, is definitely not honest. Over and over that candidate has been shown to be not only dishonest but as crooked as you can get. Many countries have become world powers over time, such as the Mongolians, the Romans, the Chinese Dynasties, the Portugese, the Spanish, the British, and now the United States, but our country’s power has been diminishing under Progressive control. The average life span of a world power throughout history has been about 200 years. The end of our country’s power life span is past due. This may be the most important election in your life and in the history of our country. Remember it’s not about who will be elected President, it’s about who will be appointed to the Supreme Court!

Wow! OPEN CARRY has passed and been signed by the Governor! Can you believe it? We don’t encourage openly carrying for a lot of reasons but if you want to it will be your prerogative, and if you have your CHL you will automatically be eligible for open carry. The new law takes effect January 1, 2016. There is a great advantage to the new law for concealed carriers. Take this scenario for example: as is now, let’s say the wind blows up your shirt and you did not know it. So your gun is now exposed and someone sees it and phones the police. You can be arrested! You must prove that it was an inadvertent display in order for the charge to be dismissed. That can cost you a lot of time, money, embarrassment, etc. With open carry it won’t matter. They will not be able to arrest you because openly displaying your gun will be legal as long as it is holstered, and “holstered” is the key here. In order to openly carry, the gun must be holstered. Admittedly, some of this might be speculative since DPS has not actually defined requirements for open carry, but according to the statute that was passed and signed it cannot be otherwise. South Texas CHL and Handgun Training will update this BLOG and our website definitively, as soon as DPS definitively explains the requirements for open carry.

What do you know about the NRA? You’re a member? Great! If not then you may not know something about the NRA that few anti-gunners and most liberals will never tell you. It’s where and how the NRA began. The NRA began in New York. New York, get a rope! ‘Just kidding of course, but yes, it’s probably the most anti-guns state in the country. Well, they might be neck and neck with California, but you know what I mean. It began in 1871 with a shooting range on Long Island. Yes, I said Long Island believe it or not! Union officers were concerned with the lack of marksmanship of their soldiers during the Civil War. It didn’t take long though before the anti-gunners were already at work and forced the closing of the gun range only some 20 years later. …but there you have it. The NRA started in New York City! It moved out of New York to New Jersey and the rest is History. It’s now the most formidable lobby group in the country. A lot of people you talk to seem to have some issues with the NRA, but it’s because they just don’t have a good understanding of how the political machine works. You’re not always gonna’ agree with what they do, but who is it that agrees with everything YOU DO? For gun owners, it’s all that has kept guns in our hands over the years as the anti-gunners have pulled out all the stops in attempting to get gun control laws passed. If not for primarily the efforts of the NRA in all likelihood guns would have already been made illegal in this country as is the case in many other Democratic and of course all dictatorial governments. Has gun crime stopped in countries like, The United Kingdom, Australia, India? No, of course not. Take away guns from the good people and only criminals then will have guns! If you’re not already a member then join the NRA. Do it now, don’t wait. Their yearly membership dues have gone down a little to $25.00. You can join by clicking the link to NRA from our Home Page. Become a part of and a contributing member of the greatest lobbying group in the country, and then rest assured, you’ll be keeping your guns as long as they have a say!

If you’re worried about whether or not to go ahead and get your CHL, considering the possibility that “Open Carry” will pass, don’t be. You’ll have the advantage of already having your license should the Open Carry Bill pass. The bill that’s moving forward is the Senate Bill which simply crosses out all references to “concealed” in the original concealed carry statute. The other open carry bills have stalled. Don’t miss a great presentation next week, March 11, Wednesday night. Jerry Patterson, author of the original Texas Concealed Carry Bill will be speaking about the new Open Carry Bill proposed for a Senate vote in mid March. It will be at 6:30 p.m in the Kyle area off Goforth Rd near where it intersects FM 2001. Jerry Patterson is the former Texas Land Commissioner but authored the concealed carry bill as a Texas Senator in 1995. Mr. Patterson is known for his entertaining speeches and for example stated tongue-in-cheek “rather than have Texas secede from the Union, I’d like to see California, New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut kicked out of the union.” Mr. Patterson is also known for his penchant for concealed carry. He carries a 22 magnum in his boot but his main carry is tucked in his belt, a 380. An infamous lawman was once asked why do you carry 3 firearms. His answer was “because to carry 4 would be ostentatious.”
**Since the passage of the Concealed Handgun Law, the FBI Uniform Crime Report shows an 18% drop in handgun murders, down from 838 in 1995 to 688 in 2004, and a 13% drop in handgun murders per 100,000 population, down from 4.5 murders per 100,000 Texans in 1995 to 3.95 per 100,000 in 2004. In 2000, on the fifth anniversary of the Concealed Handgun Law, the National Center for Policy Analysis issued a report that indicated Texans with concealed carry permits are far less likely to commit a serious crime than the average citizen. According to the report, the more than 200,000 (now actually some 800,00) Texans licensed to carry a concealed firearm are much more law-abiding than the average person. The report illustrated that Texans who exercise their right to carry firearms are 5.7 times less likely to be arrested for a violent offense. They are 14 times less likely to be arrested for a non-violent offense. And they are 1.4 times less likely to be arrested for murder. For more information click the following: Jerry Patterson

What will they do next? The rate at which they keep piling stuff on us is unbelievable. Yes, I’m talking about this regime that calls itself the administrative branch of our government. …and regime is the proper term for them, not to rip-off one of Rush Limbaugh’s coined terms. I’m an older guy. You young people don’t realize what it was like when those of my age used to hear stories of life in Russia, which then was called the Union of Soviet Socialists, and socialists they were, but that adjective isn’t sufficient to refer to what life was like there. Here, life was good back in the 50’s and 60’s. WWII and the Korean War had ended. The most sexy programs on TV were I Love Lucy and The Dick Vandyke Show, not to short end Ozzie and Harriet. …and what a crooner was Ricky Nelson. I still miss his music, but I realize I’m digressing too much. Let’s get back to the point at hand, this regime! If you haven’t realized it yet, those stories we heard of life in Russia are here now! Is this the Twilight Zone? Wake me up from this nightmare!
So now they’re gonna’ take over the internet. Apparently they’re trying to slide this in with all the other things they’re overwhelming us with like the so called immigration reform, Keystone pipeline veto, attempt at banning some of our ammo, and let’s not forget Obama Care which we still haven’t realized the worst of yet. These are only the current stories in the media. If you dig a little there is so much coming from this regime that you can’t even keep up with it. The internet is our last bastion of “free market capitalism” in it’s purest form. Well, maybe not completely pure since the administrative branch of our government already manages to wash, that is, take down from public view many of the things that they’ve already decided we should not be able to see. So for now, I’m able to write this blog, but for how long I don’t know. Many people think this is a good thing, but many people also thought Obama Care was a good thing. It takes a long time for people to realize what’s going on for some reason, and I’m talking “a long time” like five or six years before people start waking up. Are we that lost in our own little bubbles of reality. Yes, The Voice has started back, and I still don’t know what it is that people see in the Kardashians or TMZ, oh, and Honey Boo Boo, I won’t even go there. We all use the internet like its going out of style; smart phones, Ipads, our laptops, Netfiix, you name it, we’re hooked. This could all go away! If you don’t believe it you better start getting educated. This is not about lowering your costs. This is about censoring what we can get access to. Don’t believe it? Again, I’m telling you. If you don’t already know what I’m talking about you better start checking it out! I know I’m preaching to the choir, you shooters are already a notch above in terms of understanding our rights as American Citizens, but talk to your friends. They probably can only tell you who was chosen last night on The Voice and they probably only get their news from Yahoo. So they just don’t know what’s going on out there in “Real-Vill”. Tell ’em to wake up, it’s not too late, yet!
